Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description

TME R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market, and to support Toyota globally in the development of innovatie technologies and methodologies.

The „Vehicle Comfort“ team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) and is responsible to develop the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to European customer expectations. Using state-of-the-art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets, and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes.

Your project

With the transition to hybrid and electric vehicles, customer expectations towards interior quietness are further increasing. Furthermore, the transition towards a SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle) will introduce new possibilities to apply active sound creation and cancellation technologies to create a unique sound experience for each person in the car cabin. How should the future electric vehicle sound like?

In this internship you will contribute to creating the soundscape of the future electric vehicle. We aim to realise a customer-centric approach in evaluating different sound aspects when a customer is using his/her car. Your role will be to support creating an infrastructure for immersive sound evaluation, and to contribute to the auralisation of different soundscapes and the evaluation of different sound aspects in this environment. More specifically this will include:

  • You will support the installation of a state-of-art sound simulator technology and its integration into an immersive environment,
  • You will support the creation of holistic vehicle sound models (based on existing vehicle recordings, or by designing new sound experiences) and secure the auralisation of the sounds,
  • You will support the evaluation of these sound models using state-of-art jury testing methods, and make conclusions from a statistical evaluation of the results.
