Company Information

TOYOTA is one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers and a leading global corporation. Founded in 1937. Toyota now sells vehicles in 170 countries and employs over 350.000 people. Based in Brussels, Belgium, and staffed by 2.700 people and more than 60 nationalities, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) handles the wholesale marketing of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, parts & accessories, and manages Toyota’s European R&D, manufacturing, and engineering operations.

We are excited to be transforming into a mobility company focusing on bringing even more happiness to our customers through various mobility solutions.

Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description

TME R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market, and to support Toyota globally in the development of innovatie technologies and methodologies.

The „Vehicle Comfort“ team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) and is responsible to develop the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to European customer expectations. Using state-of-the-art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets, and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes.

Your project

With the transition to hybrid and electric vehicles, European customer expectations towards interior quietness are further increasing. In this internship you will contribute to the development of virtual prediction models (among others “SEA”= statistical Energy Analysis) to simulate the 3D sound experience in the vehicle cabin, and to study how these models can be used in the optimisation of the cabin acoustic treatment and to support decisions related to the layout of the loudspeakers in the cabin. More specifically:

  •  You will study different acoustic package proposals for a vehicle, and judge their performance for cabin interior quietness using a simulation model,
  •  You will perform sensitivity studies, and optimise specific characteristics of the acoustic treatment to improve the interior sound cabin at lowest mass impact,
  •  You will study different speaker layouts in a vehicle cabin and judge their performance for sound (music) creation using a simulation model,
  •  You will perform acoustic testing in our anechoic room and on our test track, to measure the interior noise and speaker system performance using prototype samples, and use these results to improve and validate the simulation results.
