Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description

 

Toyota Motor Europe R&D Centre is responsible for:

  • Developing vehicles and making concept proposals for European core models.
  • Reflecting EU technologies to Toyota vehicles timely by utilizing a location advantage and a strong network with European partners.

The Material Engineering division (ME) is part of the R&D group at Toyota Motor Europe Technical Center in Zaventem, Belgium. By utilization of wide and deep material knowledge as well as evaluation & analysis capability, its mission is to conduct research, to develop and to introduce attractive & environment-friendly materials.

 

Paint department in Material Engineering Division is responsible for the investigation, development and introduction of coatings of vehicles for the purpose of enhancing attractiveness of the car and contribution to environment (low emissions, CO2 reduction). Our function is to design new colors for EU manufactured vehicles, development of decorative coatings for interior and exterior parts and advanced development of new type of pigments.

Paint department activities also require regular monitoring of the marketplace and field performance data collection for assessment of existing designs and for definition of new design specifications.

 

As major direction Paint department aims to utilise digital tools for technical and communication tasks. We therefore decided to offer an internship for the field of Digitalisation.

 

Your project

  • Conduct an analysis of existing data with our manufacturing plant paint shop relating to paint design and workability parameters.
  • Identify key parameters relevant to quality control and simulation modelling.
  • Define methodology to gather identified data and structure the data collection.
  • Based on available data, propose innovative methodologies to create simulation tools and quality control tools adapted to the paint related processes, ensuring reliability in outcomes.
  • Design pilot system, perform pre-assessment and identify improvement points.
  • Document all phases of the project including methodology, data sources, model development, and results for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Present timely progress updates and findings within the team and to relevant stakeholders, in a clear and concise manner.

Your Profile

  • You are fluent in English (TME's business language)
  • Student of bachelor degree for material sciences (coating technologies) with affinity for big data analytics.
  • Programming skills (Python, Matt apps, SQL, PowerBI, or equivalent)
  • Microsoft apps: office applications (Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Flexible team player and personality able to work in an independent way
  • Fluent in English(verbal/written), additional European language skills are an asset
  • Familiar with material and chemical analytical techniques, with hands-on working style
  • Quick and eager learner with a flexible mind and good eye for details

Due to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report. This issue needs to be discussed with candidate/school in advance.

 

It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship.

 

We can only accept students with an EEA or Swiss citizenship (not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Belgium)
